[VT | Philadelphia | Sept. 10, 2025] On the afternoon of September 10, 2025, Japanese professional basketball player Monét Izumi hosted a basketball workshop with local youth at the Crane Community Center. The event was organized by PCDC (Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation), Super Big Media, and All In The Family CDC, aiming to connect different communities through basketball while inspiring young people to explore career and athletic development opportunities.
John Chin, Executive Director of PCDC, said during the event: “As an Asian American, I understand the importance of community support. Today, we are not only playing basketball on the court but also building connections and sharing hope off the court.”
The workshop was sponsored by local Philadelphia entrepreneur Ken Wong, who shared: “I grew up in Northeast Philadelphia, and playing basketball in Chinatown was the only way I could connect with other Chinese kids my age. I’m truly honored to be part of this event today.”
Event organizer Jimmy Raiford, representing Super Big Media, emphasized the purpose of the workshop: “This event is not just about basketball. Through career workshops, we help young people learn about the media and entertainment industries, encourage them to explore different career paths, and bring together communities through sports.”
Monét Izumi, a 5-foot-3 professional point guard, grew up in Japan and developed a passion for basketball. To pursue her dream, she played at colleges in Arizona and Delaware in the United States and has competed in the California Women’s Pro-Am League as well as for Basketball Club Caspiy in Kazakhstan. During the workshop, she encouraged young participants: “Don’t give up. Keep going. Basketball isn’t just about the NBA—professional opportunities exist all over the world. With effort, you can achieve your dreams.”

During the afternoon workshop, participants had the chance to interact directly with Monét on the court, learning skills and teamwork firsthand. Supporters attending the event included Philadelphia City Councilmember Mark Squilla, Coach Kook, and Cambodian-American entrepreneur Pheng Seng, adding to the vibrant community atmosphere.
Sponsors for the event included the Philadelphia 76ers, Philadelphia Flyers, Ascend Greater Philadelphia, Luna, and United Insurance, demonstrating strong collaboration between the community, businesses, and youth development programs.
