U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) appeared in North Philadelphia on May 15 at a GOTV (Get Out The Vote) rally for Pennsylvania State Representative Chris Rabb ahead of Pennsylvania’s Democratic primary election.
The event was held at Garden of Prayer World Prayer in North Philadelphia and took place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The rally drew local residents, community organizers, labor advocates, elected officials, and voters from across the Philadelphia area. Some attendees remained standing throughout portions of the event as speakers addressed issues related to housing, healthcare, education, and voter participation.
In addition to Ocasio-Cortez and Rabb, speakers included:
- Nikil Saval
- Elizabeth Fiedler
- Kendra Brooks
- Nicolas O’Rourke
as well as representatives from the Working Families Party, labor organizations, and community groups.
According to public remarks delivered during the rally, speakers discussed a range of public policy and community issues, including:
- housing affordability
- healthcare access
- education funding
- tenant protections
- workers’ rights
- community organizing
- voter participation
During her remarks, Ocasio-Cortez discussed issues related to public spending, corporate lobbying, and voter engagement, while encouraging participation in the upcoming Democratic primary election.
Rabb spoke about community service, civic participation, and his experience working with residents during his time in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He said public service should remain focused on community needs and everyday issues affecting residents.
Chris Rabb currently serves in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and is running for Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district, located in Philadelphia, is one of the most Democratic-leaning congressional districts in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania’s primary election system is used to determine each party’s nominee for the general election. Pennsylvania is a closed primary state, meaning only registered Democrats may vote in the Democratic primary.
GOTV (Get Out The Vote) activities are commonly held before primary and general elections and may include rallies, voter outreach calls, door knocking, text messaging campaigns, and early voting outreach intended to increase voter participation.
Philadelphia regularly hosts candidate forums, public rallies, community meetings, and voter engagement events during election seasons, particularly in congressional, state legislative, and local races.
