[VT Washington, D.C., December 4, 2024] – The Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) announced its newly elected leadership for the 119th Congress, with Representative Grace Meng (NY-06) elected as Chair, succeeding Judy Chu (CA-28), who transitions to Chair Emerita after 14 years.
The new leadership includes:
- Chair: Grace Meng (NY-06)
- First Vice-Chair: Mark Takano (CA-39)
- Second Vice-Chair: Jill Tokuda (HI-02)
- Whip: Ami Bera (CA-06)
- Freshman Representative: Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10)
Judy Chu (Chair Emerita) stated, “It has been an extraordinary honor to serve as CAPAC Chair for the past 14 years. I am proud of CAPAC’s achievements in health equity, education, immigration, civil rights, and combating anti-Asian hate. I have no doubt that Grace Meng will lead CAPAC with distinction.”
Grace Meng (Chair) said, “CAPAC’s mission is to ensure the voices of AANHPI communities are heard and represented at the federal level. I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance policies that empower our communities. I thank Judy Chu for her 14 years of leadership.”
Mark Takano (First Vice-Chair) stated, “We must stand together against the tide of hateful policies from the Trump administration. I will work tirelessly with Chair Meng to ensure every American can pursue their dreams free of discrimination.”
Jill Tokuda (Second Vice-Chair) said, “CAPAC has been a champion of social justice. As Second Vice-Chair, I will ensure the diverse needs of AANHPI communities are fully represented.”
Ami Bera (Whip) stated, “As the longest-serving Indian American in Congress, I am honored to serve as CAPAC Whip. We will ensure Congress reflects the voices and needs of AANHPI communities.”
