WASHINGTON, D.C., January 17, 2025 — President-elect Donald J. Trump has announced a change to the plans for his upcoming Inauguration on January 20 due to an Arctic blast sweeping across the country, bringing potentially record-breaking low temperatures to the nation’s capital. Citing concerns for the safety of attendees, law enforcement, first responders, and participants, Trump has ordered that the Inauguration Address and accompanying events, including prayers and speeches, will take place indoors in the United States Capitol Rotunda.
“The weather forecast, with the windchill factor, could result in dangerously low temperatures. I don’t want to see anyone hurt or injured,” Trump said in his statement. The move follows a precedent set in 1985, when President Ronald Reagan’s second Inauguration was moved indoors due to similar extreme weather conditions.
The President-elect emphasized that the adjustment will still allow for a “very beautiful experience” for attendees and the large television audience. Dignitaries and guests will gather inside the Capitol for the historic ceremony, while the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., will open its doors on Monday for a live viewing of the event. Trump also announced that the Presidential Parade will be hosted at the arena, and he plans to join the crowd there following his Swearing-In.
Other scheduled events remain unchanged, including the Victory Rally at Capital One Arena on Sunday at 3 P.M. (with doors opening at 1 P.M.) and the three Inaugural Balls set for Monday evening.
In his message, Trump urged supporters planning to attend outdoor portions of the celebrations to “dress warmly” and assured that “everyone will be safe, everyone will be happy.”
This adaptation reflects Trump’s commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of attendees while maintaining the celebratory spirit of the occasion. “Together, we will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he concluded.
