Philadelphia Launches Mayor’s Business Action Team to Support Local Entrepreneurs

[VT – Philadelphia | June 4, 2025] Mayor Cherelle L. Parker announced that the City of Philadelphia is expanding support for local businesses through the Mayor’s Business Action Team (MBAT), a dedicated concierge service designed to help entrepreneurs start, operate, and grow their businesses.

MBAT, part of the Department of Commerce, provides free, personalized assistance in multiple languages. Whether you are starting a new business or operating an existing one, MBAT can guide you through business registration, financing options, mentorship, site selection, and navigating City regulations.

“Philadelphia business owners are not alone,” said Mayor Parker. “We are here to guide and support them at every step of their entrepreneurial journey. We are grateful for the talent, passion, and innovation that our local business community brings to our city.”

Entrepreneurs can contact MBAT by emailing business@phila.gov or calling 215-683-2100. Business Services Managers act as liaisons between entrepreneurs and City government, providing customized support both in-person and virtually.

Key services include:

  • Assistance with business registration and compliance
  • Financial planning guidance to ensure tax compliance
  • Information on funding opportunities to grow and improve businesses
  • Access to free business mentors
  • Commercial space search and zoning guidance
  • Support navigating complex licenses and permit requirements

The initiative aligns with Mayor Parker’s PHL Open for Business Executive Order 10-2024, which commits the administration to creating a business-friendly government by streamlining City processes, reducing regulatory burdens, and accelerating approval timelines.

“Our goal is to help businesses save time and money, improve access to City services, and support a thriving, equitable local economy,” said Mayor Parker. “As One Philly, a United City, we are working to ensure all residents and businesses have the opportunity to succeed.”

With MBAT, Philadelphia entrepreneurs have a single point of access to government resources, guidance, and support to overcome challenges and grow their businesses successfully.
