2024 DNC Day 3: AAPI Female Leaders at 2024 DNC Back Kamala Harris, Humorously Critique Vance’s Remarks

August 21, 2024 Chicago, IL – At the Democratic National Convention‘s AAPI Caucus, the participation of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community emerged as a significant highlight. The event not only underscored the Biden administration’s commitment to the AAPI community but also showcased the vital role that Asian American women are playing on the political stage.

Three prominent Asian American women officials—The Honorable Katherine Tai, The Honorable Julie Su, and The Honorable Erika Moritsugu—recently came together at the AAPI Caucus to advocate for increased political engagement within the AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) community. During the event, they commended Vice President Kamala Harris for her impactful contributions. Katherine Tai highlighted that Harris serves as a powerful symbol of women’s advancement in U.S. politics and as an important voice for the AAPI community. Tai emphasized Harris’s influential role in policy-making within the Biden administration, underscoring her significance not only as a leader but as a representative of AAPI interests on the national stage.

Julie Su emphasized that Vice President Harris’s diverse background sets an example for women and minorities by breaking the traditional political framework. Erika Moritsugu, said Harris’ historic election is not only an achievement, but also an inspiration that has inspired a younger generation of Asian Americans to participate in public affairs. She also condemned Republican candidate J.D. Vance’s inappropriate comments against women as reflecting stereotypes of women and called on the AAPI community to continue to fight for equality and justice.

By joining forces at this conference, these three Asian women officials demonstrated the unity and strength of the Asian community in American politics and delivered a voice to the outside world that cannot be ignored.
