August 16, 2024, On the anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, local leaders and health care providers are mobilizing across key battlegrounds to showcase Vice President Kamala Harris’ efforts to reduce prescription drug prices and to alert voters about Donald Trump’s Project 2025, which would increase drug costs.
The events follow announcements from Vice President Harris and President Joe Biden regarding new agreements with pharmaceutical companies to lower prices on the first 10 drugs under the Medicare drug price negotiation program. Today, Harris is unveiling her plan to cap insulin costs at $35, limit out-of-pocket expenses for prescription drugs to $2,000 for all Americans, and speed up Medicare negotiations to reduce drug prices more quickly. In contrast, Trump’s Project 2025 aims to repeal these measures and raise drug costs for over 65 million Medicare beneficiaries.
To emphasize this contrast, U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock and U.S. Representatives Pramila Jayapal, Jennifer McClellan, Dan Kildee, Barbara Lee, Wiley Nickel, Maxwell Frost, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Frederica Wilson will participate in over 20 events across the country, including:
