[VT August 20, 2025 ] U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) led an official U.S. Congressional delegation to South Korea this week, meeting with President Lee Jae Myung to reaffirm the strength of the U.S.-ROK alliance and discuss cooperation in economic growth, national security, and emerging technologies.th Korea.

“It was an honor to meet with the Republic of Korea’s President Lee Jae Myung as Senator Andy Kim and I kick off our official congressional delegation visit,” said Senator Duckworth. “We look forward to productive discussions on how to keep growing our strong economic, diplomatic, and military ties with our close friend and ally.”
Senator Kim highlighted the importance of the U.S.-ROK alliance in driving both prosperity and security. “South Korea is a critical partner to the United States,” Kim said. “I discussed with President Lee opportunities to deepen cooperation in AI, biotech, and clean energy. That economic growth is enabled by our security alliance, and I am committed to strengthening it in these challenging times.”
As the first Korean American U.S. Senator, Kim emphasized the relevance of this partnership to his home state of New Jersey, which hosts the third-largest Korean-born population in the U.S. “I am dedicated to building relationships that will help our state grow and lead in innovation for generations to come,” he added.
The visit underscores continued U.S.-ROK cooperation across economic development, technology, clean energy, and regional security.
