Susie Wiles (born Susan Summerall on May 14, 1957) is a seasoned American political consultant and a prominent figure in Republican politics. She has been a key player in several presidential campaigns, including Ronald Reagan’s 1980 campaign and Donald Trump’s 2016, 2020, and 2024 campaigns. With Trump’s election in 2024, Wiles has been designated as the incoming White House Chief of Staff, making history as the first woman to hold the position.
Early Life and Education
Wiles was born in New Jersey and grew up as the daughter of Pat Summerall, an NFL placekicker who became a well-known sportscaster, notably announcing a record 16 Super Bowls. She attended The Academy of the Holy Angels and later graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in English language.
Political Career
Wiles began her political career in 1979 as an assistant to Representative Jack Kemp. A year later, she joined Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign. Throughout the 1990s, she gained valuable experience as chief of staff to Jacksonville Mayor John Delaney and as an advisor to other Republican leaders, including U.S. Representative Tillie Fowler and Florida Governor Rick Scott. In 2011, Wiles briefly managed Jon Huntsman Jr.’s presidential campaign before founding her own consulting firm.
As an experienced strategist, Wiles managed Trump’s 2016 campaign operations in Florida, contributing to his victory in this critical swing state. She later became a trusted advisor to Trump, running his Save America PAC starting in 2021 and spearheading efforts to cover legal fees for Trump’s allies. By 2022, Wiles was unofficially viewed as Trump’s chief of staff and an influential figure within Trump’s circle as he prepared for his 2024 campaign. Describing herself as a “moderate” Republican, she has been instrumental in shaping Trump’s strategy and endorsements.
Appointment as White House Chief of Staff
Following Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election, Wiles was appointed as White House Chief of Staff. She will assume office in January 2025, stepping into a role of historical significance as the first woman to serve in this capacity. Her experience, strategic thinking, and loyalty to Trump are expected to guide her leadership in coordinating the administration’s initiatives and policies.

A resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, she has two daughters and is an active member of The Episcopal Church.
