Philadelphia, PA – August 16, 2024 — On the anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), State Representatives Malcolm Kenyatta and Danilo Burgos, along with Pennsylvania Attorney General candidate Eugene DePasquale, condemned Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda. They warned that Trump’s plan to repeal the IRA would lead to higher prescription drug costs for Pennsylvanians.
The IRA, championed by the Biden-Harris administration, has lowered drug prices for nearly 3 million Pennsylvanians by capping insulin costs at $35 per month, limiting out-of-pocket expenses, and allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices. In contrast, Trump’s Project 2025 aims to undo these provisions, potentially raising costs for Medicare recipients.
Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta stated, “Kamala Harris and the Biden administration have successfully taken on Big Pharma. Trump’s plan, however, would reverse these gains and prioritize pharmaceutical companies over families.”
Eugene DePasquale added, “Project 2025 threatens to not only increase drug prices but also repeal the Affordable Care Act, which protects people with pre-existing conditions.”
Rep. Danilo Burgos warned that Trump’s agenda could harm Latino communities by raising drug prices and threatening the Affordable Care Act.
The press conference was part of a broader national effort to highlight the IRA’s benefits and challenge Trump’s proposals. Similar events are being held across the country.
