Late Thursday evening, some members of the Save Chinatown Coalition received calls from Mayor Parker’s office, inviting them to a meeting on Monday at 2 p.m. about Chinatown. We were told that this meeting will be a listening session.
We take our role representing this precious community very seriously, so we want to hear from you before Monday. What is the #1 issue facing Chinatown right now? Tell us here.
The invite list for this meeting was not shared with us, but we’ll be sure to share who was there and updates from the meeting on Monday, after it takes place.
Multiple surveys and town meetings have shown that Chinatown overwhelmingly opposes building a basketball arena on the edge of this neighborhood, and sees an arena as an existential threat to our community.
This coalition has been firm since day 1: We will never accept money or the promise of future projects in exchange for an arena. Our Chinatown community is priceless and irreplaceable.
