[VT – Philadelphia, September 30, 2025] The Philadelphia Police Department today announced the rollout of newly designed midnight-blue uniform shirts. Beginning Wednesday, October 1, residents will start to see officers wearing the new shirts as they are distributed across the city.
This initiative marks the next step in the Department’s historic transition to a uniform program that honors its proud history while reflecting its modern mission. The midnight-blue shirts reconnect the force to the traditional look worn for more than a century before powder blue was introduced in the 1970s. The new design also complements the Department’s recently introduced midnight-blue load-bearing ballistic vests.
“The updated uniform reinforces the professionalism, authority and familiarity that the public expects from our officers,” said the Philadelphia Police Department’s Office of Public Affairs.
The transition will occur in phases. Officers who have not yet received the new shirts will continue to wear the current powder-blue shirts until the rollout is complete.
