[VT Philadelphia, Pa., March 5, 2025] – Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker today announced significant investments in the city’s preparations for the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026, reaffirming Philadelphia’s role as the birthplace of America. To date, the city has committed nearly 60millionthroughitsgeneralfundtosupporteventsin2026and60millionthroughitsgeneralfundtosupporteventsin2026and500 million through its Aviation Fund to upgrade Philadelphia International Airport for millions of global visitors.
The funding will support high-profile civic and city-wide initiatives, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, MLB All-Star Game, and the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. It will also fund community-centered activations and expanded Independence Day celebrations.
“2026 is not just a year for Philadelphia—it’s a defining opportunity to highlight our city’s passion and unwavering spirit on the global stage,” said Mayor Parker. “We’re committed to ensuring Philly is ready to welcome the world.”
The investments aim to deliver a world-class experience for visitors and residents, ensure safety, and invest in Philadelphia’s future through capital improvements. Key initiatives include:
World-Class Experience
- Over $30 million to support visitor attraction, commercial corridor empowerment, and the FIFA Fanfest at Lemon Hill.
Public Safety
- $28 million for public safety equipment, training, and the Market Street Old City Improvement Project.
Capital Improvements
- Enhancements at Philadelphia International Airport, including passenger experience upgrades, technological improvements, and airfield upgrades.
