Mayor Cherelle L. Parker Holds Ceremonial Signing of Bill Funding Revitalization of Interim Bus Facility

[VT I Philadelphia, PA January 8, 2026] Mayor Cherelle L. Parker today hosted a ceremonial signing of legislation authorizing funding for the revitalization of Philadelphia’s interim intercity bus facility, advancing plans to reopen the site at 1001 Filbert Street as a modern bus station by May 1, 2026.

The City of Philadelphia is partnering with the Philadelphia Parking Authority to rehabilitate and reactivate the Filbert Street location, providing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for intercity bus travelers. The facility is expected to play a key role in welcoming visitors to Philadelphia ahead of several major national and international events, including the America 250 celebrations, the FIFA World Cup, and Major League Baseball All-Star Game Weekend.

The project is enabled by Bill 250951, which was passed by the Philadelphia City Council late last year. The legislation authorizes the City and the Philadelphia Parking Authority to fund the bus facility through a fee charged to intercity bus carriers. Once the facility opens, a $40 per bus, per stop fee will be assessed for each stop made within Philadelphia to load or unload passengers. The increased fee will support repair, maintenance, and operating costs.

City officials said the revitalized bus station will significantly improve the travel experience for passengers, enhance public safety, and help manage transportation activity in the city center as Philadelphia prepares for increased visitor volumes tied to upcoming major events.

The ceremonial signing and press conference were held today in the Mayor’s Reception Room on the second floor of Philadelphia City Hall.
