[VT Maryland] — February 1, 2025, Ken Martin, a seasoned political leader from Minnesota, has officially been elected as the new Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Martin’s victory was confirmed today with 246.5 votes in a competitive election, securing his position as the head of the nation’s leading political party.
This milestone marks the culmination of a long and successful political career for Martin, who has served as the Chair of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) since 2011. He is also the former President of the Association of State Democratic Committees. Martin’s leadership has been pivotal in securing critical victories for the DFL in both state and national elections over the years.
In his victory speech, Martin thanked the DNC members for their support and acknowledged his team, family, and fellow candidates. “I want to thank the DNC members who have put their faith in my vision for our party,” he said. He expressed gratitude to his wife, Jen, and his son, as well as his supporters in Minnesota and across the country.
Martin also thanked Chairman Ben Wikler, Governor Martin O’Malley, and all the candidates who participated in the race.
He emphasized the importance of party unity and stated that the focus should be on winning elections. “The fight’s not in here, the fight’s out there,” Martin said. He also stated, “The fight right now is against Donald Trump and the billionaires who bought this country.”
Martin outlined three priorities for the party: uniting members, going on the offensive, and building new alliances.
