[TV – Muncy, PA ]July 10, 2025 – Governor Josh Shapiro today announced that Verne Inc., a California-based energy storage innovator, will invest nearly $4.5 million to establish its first manufacturing facility in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, creating at least 61 new full-time jobs and further strengthening the Commonwealth’s position as a leader in clean energy and advanced manufacturing.
The new facility will be located at the Marcellus Energy Park in Muncy and will produce Verne’s cold-compressed hydrogen storage vessels, which improve the efficiency of hydrogen transportation by increasing its energy density. The company plans to collaborate with local manufacturers to streamline its supply chain and operations.
Governor Shapiro emphasized the importance of the investment:
“Pennsylvania is making strategic investments to grow our innovation, energy, and manufacturing industries. Verne chose our Commonwealth over Ohio, Michigan, and West Virginia – a clear sign that Pennsylvania is open for business and ready to lead in the clean energy economy.”
To support the project, the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) has provided over $1.27 million in state support, including a $1 million PIDA loan, a $153,000 Pennsylvania First grant, and a $122,000 WEDnetPA grant to help train new employees. Verne will also be eligible for R&D tax credits.

Verne CEO and Co-Founder Ted McKlveen explained the company’s choice:
“After a nationwide search, we determined that North Central Pennsylvania is the ideal location. The proximity to key partners and the local talent pool will accelerate our ability to deliver clean energy to critical industries not currently served by the grid.”
Local leaders welcomed the announcement.
Jason Fink, President and CEO of the Lycoming County Chamber of Commerce, said:
“Verne’s investment is a perfect match for Lycoming County’s resources and workforce. It’s another strong example of how regional and state collaboration brings new industry to Pennsylvania.”
Founded in 2020 in San Francisco, Verne is backed by the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Army, and major industry partners. The company supports energy distribution for sectors such as construction, data centers, ports, and drilling operations.
The project reflects the priorities of Governor Shapiro’s 10-Year Economic Development Strategy, which has already helped secure over $25.2 billion in private investment and nearly 11,000 new jobs since he took office. The administration continues to build momentum, including a recent $20 billion investment from Amazon, the largest private investment in Pennsylvania history.
Pennsylvania is open for business — and leading the way in clean energy and innovation.
