TRENTON – In a pioneering move, Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey has embraced the CommunityTM platform to establish a direct text-based communication channel with the residents of the state. This groundbreaking initiative marks Governor Murphy as the first governor in the United States to connect with constituents in such a personalized and accessible manner.

Community is an SMS marketing platform designed to link public figures, brands, businesses, and more to their audiences via a unique 10-digit phone number. Governor Murphy’s decision to adopt this platform stems from his desire to transform how he engages with the people of New Jersey. “My team and I were attracted to Community because it changes the way we engage with folks,” said Governor Murphy. “Virtually every consumer uses text messaging. Why not use it to speak directly to residents, keep them updated on some of the great work we’re doing, and at the same time provide them with another opportunity to tell us what’s on their minds?”

Governor Murphy’s Community number, (732) 605-5455, was officially unveiled on his social media accounts. He encourages residents to send in their questions, comments, and concerns through text messages. The Governor has pledged to send regular updates and make an effort to respond to as many individuals as possible.

Distinguishing itself from conventional social media platforms, Community operates as an operating system that delivers text messages directly to subscribers without algorithmic interference or advertisements. The platform’s core ethos is built on authenticity, belonging, and trust, aligning with Governor Murphy’s vision to foster genuine engagement in a communication landscape often marred by negativity.

The appeal of the Community platform was solidified after seeing President Biden adopt it. The platform’s mission is to “connect the world to the power of Community: through personal experiences and engagement rooted in authenticity, belonging, and trust – bringing out the best in people. This is especially important in today’s communication landscape where harmful, negative speech can really impact society.”

One of the standout features of Community is its commitment to user privacy. The platform does not sell user data, and the information collected during sign-up is utilized to facilitate more meaningful connections and deliver tailored content that aligns with the user’s interests. Furthermore, Community’s Acceptable Use Policy explicitly prohibits leaders, including Governor Murphy, from utilizing any data to discriminate against individuals or communities based on specific characteristics.

“We are thrilled to welcome the people of New Jersey onto the Community platform,” expressed Diankha Linear, CEO and President of Community. “Not only is Community an efficient and simple communications channel, but it also serves as a powerful tool for engagement and connection. I’m confident that New Jerseyans will find immense value in this direct connection with Governor Murphy.”

With this innovative leap into the world of direct and authentic digital communication, Governor Phil Murphy has redefined the standard for engaging with constituents and fostering a sense of community within the state of New Jersey.
