August 8, 2024 — Bel Leong-Hong, the Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Caucus, has officially endorsed Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as the Democratic candidate for Vice President of the United States, emphasizing his long-standing commitment to the AAPI community.

In her statement, Leong-Hong praised Governor Walz for his steadfast advocacy on behalf of Asian Americans throughout his career. She highlighted his efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he actively condemned the surge in discrimination and hateful rhetoric directed toward the Asian American community.

“Throughout his career, Governor Walz has stood up and stood proud on behalf of the AAPI community. That’s why this November, we’re honored to support the governor as the future vice president of the United States,” Leong-Hong said. She also pointed out Governor Walz’s investments in working families and small businesses, particularly those benefiting Asian Americans in Minnesota, expressing confidence that he would extend the same support to communities nationwide.

Leong-Hong’s endorsement comes as part of broader support for the Harris-Walz ticket, with the AAPI Caucus showing enthusiasm for what could potentially be a historic election, including the first Asian American president.

The endorsement underscores the significance of the AAPI vote in the upcoming election, as the community continues to play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape in the United States.
