Venue Details
- United Center: The primary venue for evening events, including primetime programming and major speeches. Opened in 1994, it has hosted a multitude of events, including the 1996 Democratic National Convention, and continues to be a central location for major events in the city.
- McCormick Place: The largest convention center in North America, McCormick Place will host daytime activities such as party business meetings, briefings, and other related events. It is known for hosting over 200 conferences annually and contributing significantly to the regional economy.
Participation and Opportunities
- Delegates and Alternates: More than 5,000 delegates and alternates will be present.
- Volunteers: Approximately 12,000 volunteers will be recruited to assist with various aspects of the convention, including security, transportation, event staffing, and more.
- Public Involvement: While only credentialed delegates and media can attend the convention in person, the public can engage through volunteering opportunities and by following the convention’s updates on social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X/Twitter.
Accommodation and Transportation
- Hotels: Over 40 hotels have been contracted to provide accommodation within a five-mile radius of the convention venues. This ensures convenient access for delegates, media, and other participants.
- Transportation: A comprehensive transportation plan includes coordinated bus and shuttle services to facilitate travel between hotels and convention locations. Additionally, Chicago’s extensive public transit system will be available for use.
Sustainability Initiatives
The 2024 DNC is committed to being the most sustainable convention in history. The DNCC, in partnership with sustainability advisors Bright Beat and Purpose, has developed a robust sustainability program. This program focuses on reducing emissions, preventing waste, reusing materials, and donating food. These efforts are designed to minimize the environmental impact of the convention and benefit the local community.
Public Safety Measures
- Security Coordination: The U.S. Secret Service will oversee security operations, working alongside the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC).
