Mayor Chiang, visiting the United States for the first time as Taipei’s mayor, expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome. “This gate reminds us that despite the distance between our cities, the spirit that connects Boston and Taipei transcends time and space,” Chiang said.

Reflecting on the shared values of inclusiveness and justice, Mayor Chiang highlighted the commonalities between the two cities. “Both Boston and Taipei are pioneers in promoting equality and family-friendly policies. Boston’s early legalization of same-sex marriage and Taipei’s commitment to diversity and inclusion reflect our mutual dedication to creating welcoming environments for all.”

The event also featured a personal touch, with Mayor Chiang extending an invitation to Mayor Wu and her family to visit Taipei. “It will be like coming home,” Chiang said, presenting Mayor Wu with a commemorative card from Taipei’s parent-child centers as a gesture of goodwill.

The ceremony, marked by applause and cultural performances, underscored the vibrant and evolving partnership between Boston and Taipei. As both mayors expressed their commitment to strengthening their cities’ collaboration, the gathering served as a testament to the enduring friendship and shared values that unite Boston and Taipei.

The day concluded with a shared vision for the future, as both cities look forward to furthering their partnership and working together to address global challenges and create new opportunities for their residents.
