The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has committed $290 million to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) for the construction of a fourth runway, aimed at reducing delays and enhancing safety. The project, which began in June 2023, is expected to be completed by fall 2027.
This new runway will increase flight capacity and cut average delays by 58% over the next 15 years. The grant will also fund additional airfield improvements to address safety concerns.
“This investment will boost both capacity and safety at CLT, a critical hub in the U.S. air travel network,” said FAA Associate Administrator Shannetta R. Griffin.
The funding, part of a ten-year Letter of Intent (LOI), will be distributed between 2025 and 2034.
