August 21, 2024 Chicago, IL – At the Democratic National Convention’s AAPI Caucus, the participation of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community emerged as a significant highlight. The event not only underscored the Biden administration’s commitment to the AAPI community but also showcased the vital role that Asian American women are playing on the political stage.

Three Asian women officials, including U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai, Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su, and White House Deputy Assistant to the President Erika Moritsugu, gathered at the AAPI Caucus to actively promote the political participation of the AAPI community, and gave high praise to Vice President Kamala Harris for her contributions. Katherine Tai pointed out that Harris is not only a symbol of the rise of women in American politics, but also a voice for the AAPI community, especially playing a key role in policy making in the Biden administration.

Julie Su emphasized that Vice President Harris’s diverse background sets an example for women and minorities by breaking the traditional political framework. She noted that Harris’ leadership and strong stance have inspired countless women, especially Asian women, to participate in the political process and bring about positive change in society.

Erika Moritsugu, said Harris’ historic election is not only an achievement, but also an inspiration that has inspired a younger generation of Asian Americans to participate in public affairs. She also condemned Republican candidate J.D. Vance’s inappropriate comments against women as reflecting stereotypes of women and called on the AAPI community to continue to fight for equality and justice.

By joining forces at this conference, these three Asian women officials demonstrated the unity and strength of the Asian community in American politics and delivered a voice to the outside world that cannot be ignored. Their speeches were not only a powerful rebuttal to Vance’s remarks, but also an opportunity for the Democratic Party to demonstrate its inclusiveness and diversity, further solidifying the Biden-Harris administration’s base of support among the AAPI community.

At the same time, the conference included an exploration of how to further promote Asian American participation in the political process and increase their influence in policymaking. Through this conference, the leadership and voices of Asian-American female officials were widely recognized, and new momentum was injected into the future development of the AAPI community.
