Janet Yang Re-Elected as President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday that Janet Yang has been re-elected to serve a second term as its president. This marks a significant milestone for Yang, a seasoned Hollywood producer with an impressive track record.

With notable film credits including “The Joy Luck Club,” “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” and “Over the Moon,” as well as the Emmy-winning film “Indictment: The McMartin Trial,” Yang brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role. Her dedication and contributions to the film academy have led her to hold the position of a governor-at-large for five years before being elected president last year.

Under Yang’s leadership, the 95th Academy Awards held in March experienced an uptick in viewership, a testament to her vision and direction for the organization. Academy CEO Bill Kramer praised Yang’s leadership and commended her ability to elevate the work of the global membership and film community, emphasize the industry’s rich history, promote meaningful dialogue, and actively promote equity and inclusion within the organization.

In addition to Janet Yang’s re-election, the Academy’s board of governors announced the election of several officer positions. Among the newly appointed officers are Howard Berger to the Museum Committee, Brooke Breton to the Education and Outreach Committee, Tom Duffield to the Finance Committee, and Howard A. Rodman to the Governance Committee. These fresh faces are expected to bring innovative perspectives and contribute to the Academy’s continued growth and impact.

As the 96th Oscars approaches, the film industry and movie enthusiasts eagerly anticipate another spectacular event under Janet Yang’s leadership. The 96th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 10, 2024, and will be broadcast live on ABC.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences looks forward to continuing its mission to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievements in the world of cinema, thanks to the dedicated efforts of its leadership and passionate members.
