Background and Education
Qawi Abdul-Rahman was born on July 13, 1969, at Plattsburgh Air Force Base in New York, where his father was stationed. He grew up in the Richard Allen housing projects in Philadelphia and graduated from Walter B. Saul High School for Agricultural Sciences. He later attended Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Political Science. Witnessing injustice in his community inspired him to pursue a legal career. He earned his Juris Doctor from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida.
Career
Abdul-Rahman began his legal career at the Dade County Public Defender’s Office in Miami before returning to Philadelphia to focus on criminal defense. Over a legal career spanning more than 25 years, he has handled more than 1,000 cases. In 2018, he received a Pro Bono Service Award from the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania for his commitment to public service.
