2024 DNC Day One: Congressman Mark Takano Inspires AAPI Caucus with Call to Action

August 19, 2024, Chicago, IL – Congressman Mark Takano delivered an inspiring speech to the AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) Caucus. He highlighted the significant role of AAPI Americans in the nation’s political landscape and urged strong support for the Democratic Party.

Takano, a Japanese American, former teacher, and openly gay politician, shared personal stories and historical anecdotes. He reflected on his family’s internment during World War II and his great-uncle’s service in the 442nd Infantry Regiment. These stories were meant to underscore the struggles and contributions of AAPI Americans throughout history.

He emphasized the importance of participating in the upcoming election, calling on attendees to work diligently, knock on doors, and mobilize their communities. Takano invoked the WWII-era motto “Go For Broke” to inspire commitment and action.
